QED 101 Course: Basics of the Petroleum Industry $650

Are you new to the upstream petroleum industry? Need to understand the language to get up the learning curve quickly? QED 101 is a one-day overview of industry terms and an introduction to reserves and economics. This course covers the basics of safety, geology, drilling, completions, and reserves estimation. Each participant is given a full glossary of terms and performs interactive exercises to reinforce concepts.

Basic Excel $650

This 1-day class teaches you how to utilize basic and advanced functions to manipulate typical oil and gas industry data. Unlike other Excel courses, we use real oil and gas data and standard formats. This course allows for a new view on Excel and the power in its functions.

Excel Wizardry $650

This 1-day course provides an overview of pivot tables, macros, subtotals, V-lookups, etc. leveraging typical oil and gas industry data to perform analysis and draw conclusions. From simple tasks like finding top operators or reservoirs in an area, to complex tasks like converting lease operating statements from text, this class uses real oil and gas industry data and introduces you to the world of large scale data manipulation.

Access For the Petro-Technical $1,200

This 2-day course is a comprehensive overview of relational databases within Microsoft Access. DBMS are discussed along with database structure and design. Topics covered include tables, linking tables, queries, forms, and reports. Industry specific examples are utilized to understand large scale data manipulation in commonly used proprietary software.

VBA for The Petro-Technical $1,200

This 2-day course requires Excel Wizardry and Access for the Petro-Technical as a pre-requisite. This class will cover analytical and statistical formulas, conditional formatting, and automating routine processes within the petro-technical role. Discussion regarding servers and database systems will be discussed with reference made to common industry tools. A tool kit of basic macros will be provided for individual use at the successful completion of the course.

Advanced Concepts For The Petroleum Industry $650

This is a 1-day course comprised interactive exercises to allow for dynamic learning and to accommodate different learning styles. This course builds upon the concepts introduced in the QED 101 course and also delves into: history of production, land ownership and interests, an introduction to drilling, production, field processing, and operations & work-overs.

Aquisitions & Divestitures ^650

This course gives participants an appreciation of the A&D side of the petroleum industry. The structure of data and an overview of data rooms allows for deeper understanding for those geoscience technicians that are involved in Business Development.

Engineering Technician Track

Recommended Specialized Classes in addition to the Core Classes:

Query and Cross-Checking Production Data $650

It’s easy enough to pull production data from most commercial sources, but where does it all come from and is it correct? This course reviews not only how to correctly pull production data, but it also covers common errors, tips and tricks, and how to check inconsistencies. We have compiled our knowledge to pack the best understanding of production into one course.

Advanced Production Data Analysis In Economics Software $1200

Type curves, IP analysis, and stack plots. This course reviews how to craft meaningful analysis from production data. There is a discussion of how to ensure data integrity and how each analysis can be utilized. Finding value in the data is a tremendous resource, and QED trains how to think and manipulate data to find that value.

Understanding Reserves and Economics $1200

Lots of commercial software products exist, and they all work similarly, but if you don’t understand the basics of “as of dates” and “economic limits” then no training are worthwhile. What is a BTU factor and how does shrinkage work? What is a NYMEX strip and why do we use price differentials? This course starts with the basics of modeling parameters and the thinking piece behind setting up a reserves evaluation database. Each classmate is given a check list of common errors found on cash flow statements, and everyone walks out knowing how to generate proper cash flow statements and one-line reports from commercial software. This is a 2-day course.

Interpreting Lease Operating Statements $650

This course teaches you how to estimate operating costs, capital costs, and price differentials by inspecting historical data. Complicated accounting systems typically generate text or basic excel files that are full of critical data. We teach the tricks and tips of how to quickly navigate through these pages to estimate for forward looking economics. This is a 1-day course.

Mapping for the Engineering Technician $650

What kind of maps would a technician need to make? Why and when should they be provided to an engineer? Bubble maps, IP maps, overlap maps, reference maps are all discussed while covering critical elements of map building for proper interpretations. This is a 1-day course.

Geology for the Non-Geologist $1200

This is a 2-day course that expands the concepts introduced in QED 101, it includes topics such as: geologic time and dating geologic events, identifying & classifying rocks, sedimentology and stratigraphy, structural geology, formation of petroleum traps, surface and subsurface mapping methods, pressure, temperature, and time, and the origins of hydrocarbons.

Projections and Geodetics $650

This course gives participants an appreciation of geodetics and their implications for mapping. It also provides an introduction into datum’s and an overview of projections. This course also provides a brief overview of mapping in popular software, and provides interactive exercises to allow for dynamic learning and to accommodate varying learning styles. This is a 1-day course.
