This 2-day course is a comprehensive overview of relational databases within Microsoft Access. DBMS are discussed along with database structure and design. Topics covered include tables, linking tables, queries, forms, and reports. Industry specific examples are utilized to understand large scale data manipulation in commonly used proprietary software. Lots of commercial software products exist, and they all work similarly, but if you don’t understand the basics of “as of dates” and “economic limits” then no training are worthwhile. What is a BTU factor and how does shrinkage work? What is a NYMEX strip and why do we use price differentials? This course starts with the basics of modeling parameters and the thinking piece behind setting up a reserves evaluation database. Each classmate is given a check-list of common errors found on cash flow statements, and everyone walks out knowing how to generate proper cash flow statements and one-line reports from commercial software. This course teaches students the advanced features of PowerPoint. Students will learn how to add multimedia to their presentations, and how to edit their video and audio files from within PowerPoint; how to set up and use slide masters; how to review presentations using comment and comparison tools; and finally, students will learn how to set up monitors, rehearse timing, create custom shows, as well as record, broadcast, and create video from their slide shows. Techs often have the skills to mine vast amounts of available data and boil it down to a few meaningful conclusions; however, all of this analysis is for naught if a technician cannot adequately present their ideas and findings to a team. This course and workshop hones a technician’s presentation skills and gives them the ability to practice and receive critique in this one day class and workshop. There is a discussion of how to ensure data integrity and how each analysis can be utilized. Participants in this course will learn typical commercial structures for geodatabases as well as how to identify, collect, review, and load data.
